Katy, who was dating Travie at the time, played his love interest in the music video of the song. The famous exes met in 2007 and dated on and off for a year.
They met at a recording studio and hit it off. Katy was just starting out, and Gym Class Heroes were basking in fame from the success of their second studio album. They were a fan favorite pair whose fans rooted for.
The duo collaborated again when they co-headlined a tour in 2008, their careers were taking an upward trajectory. After the release of Katy's hit song, "I Kissed a Girl," her career took off.
The pair would later call it quits, and at the time, neither of them addressed the breakup nor what led to it.

Per Vibe, during VH1’s Behind The Music special, the rapper dished on the relationship and subsequent breakup. Ultimately, her fame and his substance abuse led to their split. It was Katy who ended things, and she did it via email!
He revealed, "She wasn't stupid… She knew when I was f***** up. I chose dr*gs over our relationship… As things started taking off for her, the more I started to doubt my role in her life. There were times I felt like a stepping ladder."
After they called it quits, Katy released "Circle the Drain", which was alleged to be about Travie and his addiction.
The rapper and singer addressed the rumors in an interview with MTV News. He wasn't too pleased with the "I Kissed a Girl" singer. McCoy stated, "I heard she put out a song that's about me, or about some old habits or whatever. [And] I look at it like this: I'm just stoked that she finally has a song with some substance on her record. Good job."

According to reports,Travie offered Katy a shoulder to cry on following her bitter split from Russell Brand. On the face of it, the exes are cordial with each other. Both Perry and McCoy have moved on from their relationship drama.
