Corey Haim's Net Worth Was Down To Four-Figures Prior To His Tragic Passing

Corey Feldman and Corey Haim were both teen idols in the 1980s. Their fame was at a level that most kids their age would only dream of. However, that fame wasn't without its share of hardships. Feldman has been open about the alleged abuse he and Haim suffered as young teens in the industry.

Feldman also spoke about Haim's financial struggles at the time of his death. After Haim passed, Feldman spoke to Larry King about the reasons for Haim's extremely low net worth.

Corey Feldman Reveals The Promise He Made To Corey Haim Before He Died

In recent years, Feldman has been on a crusade to expose the alleged abuse of young actors in Hollywood.

During an interview with E!, Feldman recalled a conversation he had with Haim before filming their reality show The Two Coreys. During their conversation, Haim addressed the alleged abuse with him.

"Why don't you just tell them the truth finally and get it out?" Feldman asked Haim.

According to Feldman, Haim responded by saying "'Because he'll kill me. He will kill me.'"

Feldman said that Haim also made this plea to him, "'If something happens to me or should I die before you, promise me that my story will be told.'"

Feldman said that he made that promise to Haim.

He said, "Corey asked me to make sure that if he died before me that his story was told. I am doing exactly that… The only thing left is he wants people to know who the assailant was, and I hope to God that one day that story can be told, too."

In November 2017, Feldman appeared on The Dr. Oz Show, where he named Jon Grissom as the man who abused him. Grissom is rumored to have denied the allegations in a YouTube comment.

Feldman shared that he doesn't believe "it's possible" to have a friendship like the one he had with Haim. He said, "As a line I'll steal from my own movie Stand By Me, 'you can never replace the friends in your life when you're older like the ones that you had when you were 13.'"

Corey Feldman Accuses Charlie Sheen And Others Of Abusing Corey Haim

In early 2020, Feldman premiered his documentary (My) Truth at a screening in Los Angeles. In the film, Feldman lists the names of the men who he alleges abused him and Haim when they were child stars.

Actor Charlie Sheen was among the names listed. Feldman said Haim told him Sheen abused him while they were filming 1986's Lucas. Sheen has categorically denied the allegations.

"These sick, twisted and outlandish allegations never occurred. Period," Sheen told Entertainment Weekly.

Feldman was crying in the documentary as he recalled what Haim told him.

"This wasn't like a one time thing he said in passing. It wasn't like, 'Oh, by the way, this happened.' He went into great detail," Feldman said.

While filming Lucas, Haim was 13 and Sheen was 19. In the documentary, several people said that either Haim told them Sheen abused him as a child or heard about it through others years later. Feldman's ex-wife Susannah Sprague said that Haim told her about the alleged abuse.

"He told me that it was his costar and he told me that it was Charlie Sheen that did it," she alleged.

In addition to Grissom, Feldman named nightclub owner Alphy Hoffman and former talent manager Marty Weiss as alleged abusers. He also accused former actor Dominick Brascia, who died in 2018, of abusing Haim. Hoffman hasn't publicly addressed the allegations. Weiss denied the allegations on Twitter.

Corey Haim Was 'Very Broke' When He Died, According To Feldman

Haim's net worth was a mere $5,000 when he died in 2010. Haim's official cause of death was pneumonia, but he obtained over 500 prescription pills in the 32 days before his death.

The actor filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1997, where he listed debts for medical expenses and more than $200,000 in state and federal taxes.

Feldman spoke about Haim's dire financial situation when he was a guest on CNN's Larry King Live in 2010. According to Feldman, Haim "was living in the Oakwood Apartments with his mom, very broke, very destitute." Feldman also said that Haim "didn't even have a car."

"I appreciate the fact that everybody really cares and — and is trying to show their expression of sorrow right now, but at the end of the day, Larry, where were all these people the last 10 years, the last 15 years of Corey's life?" Feldman asked, saying Haim didn't have anyone to turn to.

He added, "Where were all these people to lend a hand out, to reach out to him and say, you know, you're a legend … you're an amazingly talented, wonderful person who's really never gone out of his way to hurt anybody other than himself."

Feldman did say Haim "burnt a lot of bridges in the industry," but said that once Haim learned his lessons, "nobody was left to pull him back up."

Feldman added that when Haim's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, "it was the first time I ever saw Corey grow up. He was grown up. He was responsible. He was there with her every day [for] the chemotherapy. He was there with her everyday getting the radiation. I actually picked them both up from the hospital and drove them back to their apartment, because he didn't have a car."
